Cycles & Transformation

Ceramic project, Ikast, Denmark

Cycles & Transformation is a ceramic project developed in Ikast, Denmark.

The work engages with material process, repetition, and structural change, exploring transformation through modular form and surface variation. Rooted in site and context, the project unfolds as a dialogue between permanence and transition.

Cycles & Transformation comprises two large-scale ceramic paintings commissioned for Lysholt in Ikast-Brande Municipality, Denmark, completed in 2023 as a public art project. Each measuring approximately 2 × 3 meters, the works are composed of earthenware tiles painted with slip and fired with a glossy overglaze.

Integrated into the building’s covered terraces, the paintings are conceived specifically for the architecture and occupy prominent, visible positions within the shared environment of the daycare center and special school.

Here, ceramics functions primarily as surface rather than object. The material carries both painterly and sculptural qualities: slip-based colorations and reflective glaze produce subtle relief effects that shift with light and movement. Robust yet responsive, the works support the building’s organic material palette while offering tactile presence within a space designed for children.
