Play of Color

Wandering across planes, they bend and wind, twist and turn.
Throw shadows on each other only to fall right back into the shades.
They hide and emerge.
Disappear and pop up.
Black on white
Stripes that push each other about
Scream of orange
The swarm on the surface forms a grid on the plane of the canvas.
Only thus will the background emerge as form.
Or is it the space outside the image that is reflected here?
Like Plato’s Cave: a world we see only through the reflections on a wall.
No, the shadows here have a life of their own.
They are color, energy, concentration…
The play of forms migrates from painting to graphic work and back again in new mutations.
From previous paintings they float into new graphic expressions.
Re-emerge, take shape and become a springboard for new paintings.

So also the smallest of visual elements, the most unimpressive small dots.
Teeming, blinding, melting together to become a unity, an overwhelming swarm.
Razor-sharp and blurred
Harsh and toned down
Harmonic and yet right in your face
This is no play of shadows.
It is a play of planes of color.
Figures on planes switching between appearance and pure form.
The way the world emerges for us today through screen and image.
In the midstream between flickering and representation.
Where the image has yet to find its final form, alternating between it’s being as color and as image of the world.
