Are they meeting or drifting away from each other? In this new series of oil paintings, meandering shapes are all tangled together. While some are dense and saturated with colour, others are looser and more transparent in their expression. All grow out of each other, unbroken and intertwined. Sometimes the shapes seem to fall from one another, at other times they appear to move towards a more closely connected state.

Layer by layer, the paintings build up surfaces of organic abstraction. Particularly distinctive are the dry brush strokes, which leave obvious traces of movement on the surface. The contrast is underlined by the approach of shapes, the painting of which is diluted into trickling, dense splotches. This built-in difference between layers, between union and distance is echoed in the titles of the works: for example, Arrival from a Distance and Fragments Assemble. The laws of physics are faced with the impossible in Falling Upwards, and through all the idea of movement runs constantly as a recurring motif.
